Charming Paro town and the breathtaking Paro Valley

Exploring the breathtaking Paro Valley on foot, discover the 17th century Paro Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most impressive fortresses. Crossing the Paro River over a traditional cantilever bridge with a wood shingled roof, a stone path weaves its way gradually up to the dzong. Then follow the willow tree-lined road leading back into the small and picturesque Paro township, where you’ll indulge in your luxury sanctuary overlooking the valley.

Day 1

Breathtaking Paro Valley

Upon arriving at Paro, you’ll be treated to a traditional Bhutanese welcome before transferring to your luxury mountain lodge. Explore the breathtaking Paro Valley and ancient Paro Dzong - an enchanting mix of crimson-robed monks, centuries-old whitewashed fortresses and men and women in colourful dress.

Day 2

Discover ancient fortresses & quiet mountain paths

After breakfast, your private luxury transfer brings you to the ruined fortress of Drugyal Dzong built in 1649. Explore the fortress and soak up the atmosphere, before transferring along a quiet mountain farm road to the starting point of your trek at the small village of Shana. Trekking along gradual mountain paths, refresh with cold towels and a gourmet picnic lunch along the way, before reaching your first mountain camp at 3,200 metres.

Day 3

Trekking through blue pine & oak forests

Today you begin trekking along the Paro River. Entering the Jigme Dorji National Park, enjoy the vista of blue pine and oak forests, stopping for a hot gourmet lunch along the way. Trekking through the countryside scattered with the stone houses of nomadic yak herders, reach your base camp for the night situated at Jangothang at 4,080 metres. Rest, relax and soak up the stunning Mount Jhomolhari views.

Day 4

Discover high altitude lakes

Today it is time to rest and acclimatise. Explore the beautiful high altitude lakes, brimming with spotted trout, or enjoy a day trek soaking up the views of Jichu Drakye to the eastern side of Mount Jhomolhari. Tonight, rest your head again at your base camp for the night situated at Jangothang at 4,080 metres.

Day 5

Savour remote glacial valleys & unique wildlife

Leaving the nomadic settlements behind you head deep into remote glacial valley countryside. Trekking in the company of spectacular views of Jichu Drakye, look out for the rare blue sheep found only in Bhutan. After lunch, continue trekking north through the pristine Jaje Chhu Valley to your overnight camp at remote Lingshi at 4,010 metres. Discover the small and atmospheric Lingshi Dzong which was built to guard over and protect this important North Western trade route.

Day 6

Mountain passes & pristine valleys

With a long day of trekking ahead of you, it is an early start today. Trekking through the pristine Mo Chhu Valley, you eventually reach the Yali La Pass at 4,930 metres. Soak up the jaw-dropping views of Mount Jhomolhari, Tserim Kang and Gangchhenta peaks, as you begin your descent into the wide valley below passing the serene Khedo Tsho Lake, before winding your way through the Wang Chhu Valley towards Shodu and your camp for the night at 4,080 metres.

Day 7

Meditation caves, waterfalls & ancient ruins

After breakfast, you begin trekking along a quiet mountain trail following the route of the Thimphu River. Enjoy the stunning views of rocky cliff faces, small meditation caves and waterfalls. Rest and relax by the riverside over a gourmet lunch. After lunch, gradually ascend to the ruins of the ancient Barshong Dzong before arriving at your next camp for the night at 3,710 metres.

Day 8

Mountain rivers & rhododendron forests

This morning you begin descending through forests of rhododendrons and birch to the banks of the Thimphu River, before beginning a relatively steep ascent to your camp for the night. Soak up the vista of more rhododendron forests, as the trail climbs around a cliff face high above the river, before a picturesque pasture and your deluxe camp emerges.

Day 9

A luxury mountain retreat

The last day of your trek brings you into the capital of Bhutan, Thimphu. Descending deep into bamboo forests, trek down to a picturesque river bank to enjoy a riverside lunch before your luxury transfer returns you to Thimphu and your luxury mountain lodge for the next two nights. Indulge in a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath or curl up with a book by the first, rest and relax.

Day 10

Experience charming Thimphu town

After a relaxed start to the day, explore one of the world’s most enigmatic capital cities - an enchanting mix of crimson-robed monks, centuries-old whitewashed fortresses and men and women in colourful dress. Discover the 169 foot Buddah Dordenma sitting high above the Thimphu Valley, explore the striking National Memorial Chorten and wander Thimphu’s small laneways exploring local teashops and handicraft emporiums displaying some of Bhutan’s most intricate hand-loomed textiles.

Day 11

Departure

Enjoy your breakfast and soak up the mountain views one last time, before your private luxury transfer returns you to Paro International Airport.
