Hot off the press: 50 best-ever travel tips

Who doesn’t love a good travel tip? Well, Sydney Morning Herald’s Traveller, one of Australia’s largest and most popular weekend travel reads, delivered 50 of the best-ever travel tips including a selection from the pros, and Seven Skies’ founder Nathan Wedding was thrilled to be invited to offer his.

Here are our favourites from the 50 best-ever list:

No.1 Our favourite travel tip. A smile. Simple, free and makes you feel good. And gives you memorable experiences in spades when you are lucky enough to find yourself on a distant shore.

No.2 For the ladies, carry a small selection of scarves. We have been devotees of this for years. Pack three or four light-weight scarves, and you’ve got some instant wow factor! Chic, light as a feather in your luggage, and when they’re not dressing up an outfit perfect for sun protection or modesty when needed.

No.3 Forget ear plugs, noise-cancelling headphones can be a lifesaver. Enter a world of serenity when you pop these little gems on. Although not ideal for sleeping, in dire situations they’ll do a far better job than ear plugs. We use the Bose QuietComfort - and it doubles as a great sound system for music or movies on your iPad.

No.4 A sarong. Another one for the ladies, although if you travel with us to the Kinabatangan River in Borneo or Temple of the Sacred Tooth in Sri Lanka, it’s also one for the men. For visiting Buddhist sites that are steaming hot but require the modesty of covered legs, pants don’t do the job well but sarongs do. Also great for keeping cool around the pool or your hotel.

And of course we know you are dying to hear Nathan Wedding’s pro travel tip?

“Store important travel documents, including itineraries, airline tickets, passport copies and insurance details, in an online cloud storage system such as Dropbox or Google Drive, so you can access them on all your devices or even from a computer at a hotel.”
