New suites at Kahanda Kanda, Sri Lanka

Set in a lush green tea plantation close to the UNESCO World Heritage listed city of Galle and a sparkling palm-fringed coastline, Kahanda Kanda has long been one of Seven Skies’ favourite boutique hotels in Sri Lanka. And with 3 new suites recently added to the offering here, you will be spoilt for choice.

Kahanda Kanda is the brainchild of English interior designer and long-time Sri Lankan resident, George Cooper, and with 9 free-standing suites dotted around the property, the experience here is all about soaking up the tranquility of the peaceful gardens and tea plantation, lapping up the Koggala Lake views from the inky-green rainwater pool, and indulging in some of the most beautiful rooms in Sri Lanka.

Although originally launched with 6 free-standing suites, the sense of privacy and intimacy remains with the addition of 3 new suites scattered around the property. The new Dubu Suite is particularly stunning, and if you are looking for the ultimate in privacy this is for you. Located down the hill from the pool and restaurant area, Dubu Suite is made up of an antique Javanese house which unfolds onto an expansive lawn and private infinity-edged pool. There are 2 outdoor bathrooms to enjoy - take your pick - and the interiors are done with typical George Cooper panache. We particularly love the four-poster canopied bed set in the heart of the room.

The newest suite added to the Kahanda Kanda collection is the Nelum Suite (meaning water lily). Following the same footprint and layout as the popular Tamarind and Mango Suites, this suite faces south and west with probably the best views over the tea estate and towards Koggala Lake. With a king size bed, seating area and an expansive bathroom with double showers, this is another great Kahanda Kanda room complete with the trademark mix of eclectic antiques and contemporary pieces.

We’ve fully experienced everything Kahanda Kanda has to offer, from the best rooms to the not to miss experiences, so contact us about organising your stay. Goes well with? Our Sri Lanka experience – use this as your base while exploring Galle or add this on to the end of your Sri Lanka stay.
