The Wallawwa in Sri Lanka relaunches
Tranquil The Wallawwa is where we start our journey in Sri Lanka and although we didn’t think this perfect introduction could get any better, it has with the addition of four new garden suites, the brand new Mountbatten Suite, and the reopening of a newly located restaurant and bar.
Located only 20 minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport, we handpicked The Wallawwa because we thought it was the best way to start a trip! After a long flight, a short drive delivers you to an elegant oasis. A much more attractive option than the long drive to Colombo, and perfectly positioned for departing to the cultural triangle the next day. The Wallawwa is set in three acres of lush gardens and the beautifully restored colonial house that forms the heart of this intimate hotel dates back to the 18th century. Serene ponds, a charming pool built using natural Indian stone tiles and very warm Sri Lankan hospitality completes the picture.
Four new garden suites have been added to the existing eight, each a spacious 55 square metres with a king-size Balinese four poster bed, private verandah and garden, and expansive bathrooms. Those seeking the ultimate luxury should look no further than the brand new Mountbatten Suite - at a huge 150 square metres this suite also comes with a private garden and plunge pool, a large living room and terrazo bath.
The Wallawwa’s renowned restaurant, The Verandah, has also reopened in a new location overlooking the lush gardens, and a new lounge bar has been added. Whilst soaking up the tranquility and colonial grandeur here, you’ll find a gin and tonic has never tasted so good!
